Salus Market: Clinton’s Bright New Little Gem
For quite some time, Clinton residents have watched with curiosity and anticipation as a building in the heart of Olde Towne was transformed into something new. Now, Salus Market has finally opened its doors, bringing coffee, breakfast, local goods, and a fresh gathering space to downtown Clinton.
Salus Market describes itself as a neighborhood café and market. During its opening, it began with a full coffee menu, breakfast pastries, and a scaled-down food menu featuring biscuits, pancakes, and granola. The business has also announced that its menu will continue to grow, with weekend cocktails and more still to come.
My family visited Salus Market today and, in true Little Basket fashion, ordered nearly everything on the breakfast menu.

A Bright and Welcoming Space
The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. Salus Market is spacious, open, and filled with natural light. Through the large windows, you can see downtown Clinton, which gives the café a strong sense of connection to the surrounding community.
The interior feels modern and thoughtfully designed, but it still has the warmth and friendliness that belong in Olde Towne. There is plenty of indoor seating, along with several tables on the patio.
It seems equally suitable for meeting a friend, working quietly over coffee, or bringing the whole family for breakfast.
The service was friendly, and our order came out quickly—even though we ordered nearly everything on the breakfast menu. That made our first visit feel easy and welcoming.
As a mother of two young children, I also appreciated the small but important family-friendly details. High chairs are available, and the restroom includes a baby-changing station.
Those conveniences can make the difference between a relaxing family outing and a stressful one.

“Be a Good Neighbor”
One of my favorite details at Salus Market is its theme: “Be a Good Neighbor.”
The phrase feels especially fitting for a café located in the center of Clinton’s community. Salus Market does not feel like a place designed only for people to stop in, buy something, and leave. It feels like a place where neighbors are invited to sit down, share a meal, meet a friend, and enjoy their town together.
Even the handwashing reminder above the restroom sink carries the same message:
“Be a good neighbor; wash your hands.”
It made me smile.
It is practical, a little playful, and completely consistent with the spirit of the space. The message turns an ordinary reminder into something communal: taking care of yourself is also part of taking care of the people around you.
That small detail may say more about Salus Market than a long mission statement could.
Coffee: Salus Signature Latte
I ordered the Salus Signature Latte.
It had a pleasant flavor and was enjoyable overall, although it was sweeter than I normally prefer. Those who enjoy flavored or dessert-style coffee drinks may love it exactly as it is. Someone like me, who prefers coffee that is less sweet, might want to ask whether the sweetness can be reduced.
The Clear Favorite: Yogurt and Fruit Bowl
My favorite item of the morning was easily the Yogurt and Fruit Bowl.
It included yogurt, strawberries, granola, and beautifully thin slices of fresh, crisp apple.
The combination was refreshing, healthy, and satisfying. The strawberries added freshness, the granola brought a pleasant crunch, and the delicate apple slices added a particularly nice texture.
The portion was also exactly right for breakfast or brunch—not so small that I was still hungry, but not so heavy that I felt overly full afterward.
This is the item I would most confidently recommend, especially to someone looking for a lighter and healthier breakfast. I would happily order it again.

Oatmeal Griddle Cake: Wonderfully Tender, but Very Sweet
The Oatmeal Griddle Cake had a wonderfully tender texture. It was soft, delicate, and more interesting than an ordinary pancake. The texture was one of the highlights of the breakfast menu.
Unfortunately, the syrup drizzled over the top made it too sweet for my personal taste. The griddle cake itself seemed flavorful enough that it did not need quite so much added sweetness.
Next time, I would ask for the syrup on the side so I could control the amount. With less syrup, this could easily become one of the strongest items on the breakfast menu.

Biscuits, Biscuit Sandwich, and Featured Cake
We also sampled the biscuit, biscuit sandwich, and the featured strawberry-basil cake. The biscuit was soft and fluffy, and my children especially enjoyed it with strawberry jam that came with the biscuit. Children’s opinions are often the most honest food reviews, and they were very happy to keep eating it.
For me, the plain biscuit and biscuit sandwich were pleasant, although they did not stand out as much as the Yogurt and Fruit Bowl or the tender texture of the Oatmeal Griddle Cake.
The strawberry-basil featured cake sounded creative and looked tempting, but it was again sweeter than I personally prefer. Overall, I found it just okay. Someone with a stronger sweet tooth may have a very different opinion.

More Than a Café
Salus Market is not limited to coffee and breakfast/brunch.
Its market area offers items such as candles, house-made granola, T-shirts, mugs, and home décor.
That combination gives the space more personality than a typical café. You can stop in for coffee, pick up a bag of granola, browse for a small gift, or sit near the window and enjoy a view of downtown Clinton. It feels designed not simply as a place to buy food, but as a neighborhood gathering place.
Little Basket’s Honest Take
Salus Market is still new and still finding its rhythm.
Some of the items we tried were sweeter than I prefer, and a few of the breakfast choices felt fairly ordinary. However, there is already a great deal to appreciate.
The space is beautiful, bright, and comfortable. The service is friendly, and the food arrives quickly. The location in the heart of Olde Towne is excellent, and the thoughtful family-friendly details make it an easy place to visit with young children.
The Yogurt and Fruit Bowl is something I would gladly return to order again, and the Oatmeal Griddle Cake has great potential—especially with the syrup served on the side.
Most importantly, Salus Market gives Clinton another locally owned space where neighbors can gather.
Its message, “Be a Good Neighbor,” feels sincere rather than decorative. You see it in the welcoming atmosphere, the communal tables, the family-friendly facilities, and even the reminder to wash your hands.
Salus Market may still be developing its menu, but it already feels like Clinton’s newest little gem.
What I Would Order Again
Little Basket Favorite: Yogurt and Fruit Bowl
Worth Trying: Oatmeal Griddle Cake, with the syrup on the side
For the Kids: Soft and fluffy biscuit with strawberry jam
For Coffee Lovers: Salus Signature Latte—ask for less sweetness if you prefer a less-sweet drink
Favorite Detail: “Be a good neighbor; wash your hands.”
Salus Market:Clinton

Salus Market
“Be a Good Neighbor.”——
“Be a good neighbor; wash your hands.”
Salus Signature Latte
Yogurt and Fruit Bowl
Oatmeal Griddle Cake:
Oatmeal Griddle Cake
Biscuit、Biscuit Sandwich

Salus Market
它所强调的 “Be a Good Neighbor” 并不只是一句装饰性的口号。
Yogurt and Fruit Bowl
